Just watched Fast and the Furious on DVD, great movie on the big screen, but wasn’t until I watched it at home that I got thinking. America and Japan have a massive night time club scene. It’s perfect, Joe Public is at home tucked up for Holiday Slags or Posh and Becks Make Toast. Roads are empty as are car parks and there are no time constraints to daylight etc. As a nation, we have a very dull night-time culture. The lights go out at 11pm nation-wide, pubs are locked up and if your hungry after 12.00 am, then it’s either a Shell station microwave burger or 14 packets of crisps. Surely there is potential here for a late night motoring club? I’m not talking about 140 MPH street races (although that’s your prerogative), but there is always time for a little geek out with like minded’s, wrapped up in warm clothing and flasks of steamy cocoa.
The Japanese have a very active midnight club scene, I’m sure the weather helps, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. Day time meets, although fun and relatively humane, can become extremely mundane affairs. After a testosterone fuelled debate about the merits of NOS over HKS 25/10’s, we all say goodbye and join, not unlike lemmings, the never ending traffic jam that is the North Circular.
Now where’s the sense in that?
